If You Have A Bat Flying In Your House:
WATCH THE BAT! The bat will land eventually and it will
be faster toremove the bat when we know exactly where it is.
DON’T OPEN A WINDOW! Bats are a major carrier of
rabies and it is impossible to test a bat once it has flown out
a window.
CONFINE THE BAT TO ONE ROOM! Bats are much
easier to locate if our technicians know exactly what room
the bat is in.
CALL RIGHT AWAY! Many times homeowners wait until
the next day to call about a bat in their house. This makes it
very difficult to locate the bat. Call right away, while the bat
is still active, and our technicians will have it in a cannister
much faster. We do not charge extra fees for middle of the
night bat calls. Our goal is to get your household and life
back to normal as soon as possible.

Bats in the Attic and Bats in the Walls
Attics and walls are perfect spots for bats to live. Attics offer shelter and
protection and bats are rarely disturbed in an attic. Bats fly into attics and spend
the day there. Bats will fly out in the evening and may come back to the attic
several times during the night. Many people see where bats are flying outof their
house and then proceed to seal that opening up. This method ofbat exclusion
is rarely successful. Many bats may wait for a while to leave their home. Just as
you and I sometimes enjoy sleeping in, bats often sleeplate and exit the attic
well after dark. Sealing their exit may very well cause these bats to search the
attic for any way out. Often this way out leads the bats directly into your living
quarters! Now you have a bat flying around while you try to sleep. Bats require
very small gaps to enter an attic. These gaps must all be sealed and one way
doors placed on openings that the bats useto leave the attic. When the bats
have all left, the one way doors may be removed and those openings
permanently sealed. This is the ONLY way toeffectively get bats out of the attic
in a house! Fumigation and toxic chemicalsare not options, as the same
poisons that would kill a bat colony, also affect us humans!
A poison does not just disappear - it can affect you for years to come.
There are no toxicants registered for use on bats. There are no proven long term repellants (if there were, I would sell them!)
Ammonia, bleach, moth balls, electronic devices, lights, and loud noises are not effective for removing bats.
If your attic or walls are harboring a bat colony, schedule an inspection today. Our Bat Exclusion Specialists will inspect your house, top to bottom, inside and out. We will identify each spot that a bat CAN get into your home and also the spot or spots that bats ARE USING to get into your house. We divulge ALL this information to you. We charge for our inspections and each inspection will last approximately an hour and a half to two hours. Unlike companies that offer free inspections, we are very thorough and educate you about the entire process. Many homeowners opt to do the work themselves after learning exactly what is involved with excluding bats from their home. Although we would love to do the work, we are homeowners too, and we understand and encourage the handy individuals to follow our instructions. With our guidance, paid for during the initial bat inspection, many homeowners have solved their own bat problems. For those of us that can’t stand working at heights or anywhere near bats, we will obviously be very happy to do the work for you!
A quick word about Rabies
The hardest part of explaining the rabies threat to clients is to do it without it looking like a scare tactic. Here is a news clip from November 19, 2009.
RABIES IS FATAL - IT WILL KILL YOU IF NOT TREATED PROMPTLY!
Rabies death reported in western Michigan
November 19, 6:17 PM 2009 Grand Rapids Public Health Examiner Nancy Zielinski
A man's death due to rabies caused by a bat was recently reported by Michigan District Health Department #10 officials. Health officials are not releasing the name of the victim due to privacy issues.
Rabies is an infectious viral disease that affects the nervous system of humans and other mammals. People get rabies from the bite of an animal with rabies. Treatment for rabies can be successful if immediate medical attention is provided, however, symptoms of infected people may not appear for several weeks or even months after exposure.
Rabies kills between 40,000 and 70,000 people each year worldwide. Rabies is almost always fatal once the virus reaches the brain and symptoms begin.
Humans exposed to rabies need to undergo a series of injections of the rabies vaccine and rabies immunoglobulin over a period of 28 days. Current vaccines are relatively painless and are given in the arm. The vaccine may produce localized pain, redness, swelling, or itching at the injection site.
