Raccoons in the Attic
Are you hearing scratching noises in your attic?
Raccoons often choose attics to make a nest. These attic dwelling
raccoons will destroy the insulation in the attic. They will use the attic
as a toilet, leaving raccoon latrine areas, (piles of feces) in several
spots. These piles of raccoon feces are unsanitary and will start to
cause terrible odors. The raccoons don’t seem to mind. They are
very happy in a nice, safe attic!
Our Attic Raccoon Trapping Program involves an attic inspection,
locating the raccoon’s entry point, and then cage trapping the
raccoon either in the attic or at the point of the attic where the raccoon
is going to leave the attic.
NEVER rely on anyone that places the live trap on the ground for an
attic raccoon. They will catch far more ground dwelling animals before
they get the offending attic raccoon and YOU will have a huge bill to pay.
Raccoon Eviction pastes, sprays, or liquids are substances that
cause a biological reaction in a mother raccoon. This tactic
should be a last resort effort - when all else fails in getting the
raccoon in a cage trap. This substance causes a mother raccoon to
vacate the premises. The thought is that you can then seal up the
hole and the raccoon will be gone. Gone? Gone where??? That
raccoon is still in the vacinity. Sometimes it tears a hole in the
neighbors attic and lives there. Other times, the raccoons tear new
holes in your home in order to regain access to THEIR home!
The BEST PRACTICES method is to remove the raccoon via a
cage trap and get it FAR AWAY from your home. Anyone offering
to use eviction paste as a first resort is doing you a disservice and
endangering your home or your neighbor’s home! That raccoon isn’t
going to go find a hollow tree to live in! It likes ATTICS!
ADVANCED WILDLIFE CONTROL LLC
REMOVES RACCOONS FROM THE ATTIC AND THEN TAKES THEM AWAY FROM YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD!
We won’t simply chase raccoons a few feet away from your home! They can cause too much damage!
Raccoons in the chimney or fireplace
Raccoons are excellent climbers! They are historically known
for living in hollow trees. Your uncapped chimney is the urban
equivalent of a hollw tree! Raccoons can and will climb in and
of chimneys with ease. Most fireplaces have an area, called
the “smoke shelf” that raccoons love to nest in. They are
offset from the fireplace damper and protected from the
elements and from predators.
DO NOT LIGHT A FIRE!
.
Lighting a fire will kill the raccoon. It will not “chase it out!”
Removing a stinking, bloated, dead raccoon is more expensive
than live trapping and removing a live raccoon!
The majority of the “raccoon in a chimney” or “raccoon in a fireplace”
calls that we receive are handled and finished the same day. We will
remove the unwanted raccoon from the chimney or fireplace, ensure
that there are no raccoon babies, collect the raccoon babies if it is a
mother raccoon, and then offer to install a quality chimney cap on your
chimney. By allowing us to install a chimney cap, you will ensure that
you will never have this problem again. We’re so sure of our work that
we will extend to you our “Animal Free Gaurantee!”
Eviction paste is made from the glands of a male raccoon.
By smearing this on the chimney or placing the liquid down the
flue, the mother raccoon will, mostly, leave within 48 hours.
Mother raccoons USUALLY take all the baby raccoons with them
but many times they simply leave one or two to die in the chimney.
Even if she changes her mind, the chimney is usually capped and
now you have a mother raccoon frantically tearing into the base of the
chimney (your roof!) to try to get her babies.
A better solution is to have our wildlife control experts remove the mother
raccoon from the chimney with our cage and special technique, remove
the baby raccoons by hand, and then cap the chimney for you. Our
methods do not require a return visit 48 hours later to see IF we were
successful. The chimney is safe and secure when we leave with ALL the
raccoons that were in the chimney! Guaranteed!
Eviction paste in my chimney?
Raccoon Babies
Our Wildlife Control Experts locate and remove baby raccoons by hand. This is done AFTER the mother raccoon is in our cage so that they may be reunited. Raccoons usually have their baby raccoons in a nest that is very hard to access. By utilizing specialized tools, adapted for each unique situation, we are able to remove a raccoon family and keep it together.
In certain situations we find that the mother raccoon has been previously killed. If we are 100% certain of this death, we will remove the baby raccoons and place them with an animal rehabilitator. Animal rehabbers do not get funding from anyone. They care and nurture the hurt and orphaned animals that people bring them and pay for it all themselves. We help our rehabbers by donating to their efforts.
Baby Raccoon Noises -
.
Very young raccoons can make many different noises. Sometimes the noise that a baby raccoon emits sounds like a bird chirping. Often the baby raccoon vocalizes with a whine that almost sounds like a faint whistle. When baby raccoons are not happy, they will growl or snarl. These noises help to locate the raccoon family. The mother raccoon can be very quiet
Attic Damage and Raccoon Diseases
Raccoons will absolutely destroy the contents of an attic. Raccoons will use the insulation as nesting material, they will defecate throughout the attic. Most importantly, their feces contain raccoon roundworm eggs.
Raccoon Roundworm (Baylisascaris) has been confirmed by the State of Michigan in “nearly 100% of all raccoons sampled. In Michigan, the parasite has commonly been seen in raccoons statewide.”
Baylisascaris procyonis is of public health significance because it can infect humans, causing skin irritations and eye and brain damage due to the random migration of the larvae. There have been 2 human fatalities, both of which happened to be children.
Our Wildlife Control Experts will let you know exactly what shape your attic is in after our inspection. We take pictures to show you any damage and will advise as to whether your attic is a potential health concern or needs insulation repair.
